BVW TARS Endorsements

The BVW TARS received numerous letters of recommendation for their conference this summer in Washington D.C. They helped greatly in the deciding process for the awards that the BVW TARS earned. Listed below are some of those letters:

______________________________________________________

Dear Ms. Wells,

I highly recommend the Blue Valley West Teen Age Republicans (BVW TARS) for the "Most Outstanding TAR Club" award. Their commitment to the Republican Party and our local Republican candidates has been instrumental in educating high school students about the political process, the importance of voting, and public policy issues.

As the founder and president of a media consulting firm for CEO's and Republican candidates at the federal, state, and county levels, I have had many opportunities to work with and get to know the BVW TARS.

This distinguished group of teenage Republicans has already developed a solid reputation among key party players as being highly organized, dependable, politically astute, and extremely professional. For these reasons and more, I foresee the BVW TARS as quickly rising to the top and becoming leaders at the national TAR level.

The BVW TARS are an asset to this community and to the Republican Party. I strongly support this group's efforts and highly recommend they be awarded the "Most Outstanding TAR Club."

Warm Regards,

Valerie Jung

President, Pure Eloquence

Executive Board

National TAR Leadership Conference

Washington, D.C.

As the Sheriff of Johnson County, Kansas a duly elected, statutory held office within the State of Kansas, I do hereby recognize the following organization for their sacrifice and volunteerism for the betterment of mankind and to the citizens of this country:

Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans

Blue Valley West High School

Johnson County, Kansas USA

c/o Mr. Hogan Miller, President

The Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans (BVW TARS) represents the best of America's youth and the GOP grassroots movement across our beloved Country. Since being elected the Sheriff of the most populated county in Kansas and one of only 90 major county sheriff's across the country, I have personally witnessed the BVW TARS involvement in the community, in representing young Republicans across our county, and even speaking in public forums and discussions at political events. The best part is they remain supportive of our Republican platform and friendly to all GOP running for office.

Whereas this letter affirms that the BVW TARS should be nominated and officially recognized by the Executive Board of the National TAR Leadership Conference for the "Most Outstanding TAR Club" award at this year's conference in Washington, D.C. during the week of July 12th, 2004.

Signed,

Lynn C. (Currie) Myers

Former Sheriff of Johnson County, Kansas

Dear Ms. Wells,

During my honor of being chair of the Johnson County Community College, College Republicans during the school year of 2003-2004, I was able to be involved in the community in many different ways. One aspect that I had wished I had thought of in high school was to be involved with the Republican Party like Hogan Miller is while still in high school.

During the spring of 2004, people from Senator Sam Brownback's office, the 3rd Congressional District of Kansas Committee, the Johnson County Young Republicans Organization, and students from Johnson County Community College met for the first time with high school teenage Republicans in January at an IHOP on a Saturday morning to talk about working together to co-host the first 3rd Congressional District debate in the area for the 2004 election year. Jordan D'Angelo, state chair of the Kansas Federation of College Republicans (KSFCR), was also in attendance. During the next five months, I got to meet and know Hogan Miller and other well respected members of his group. We had meetings almost every two weeks, and when the month of May came around the corner and we needed to get down to business, we all pitched in together to help set up, run, organize, and even had a public relations expert help put out press releases to the public about this event. I found out during this event that some of his members couldn't even vote yet, couldn't even vote yet, and still were interested in politics. And I'm not talking about one or two, but to see about eleven or so 14 to 17 year olds help out impressed me. I would like to recommend the Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans club for "Teenage Republican Group of the Year".

In my final report to the Secretary of the KSFCR in which I have to list and describe what the JCCC CR's did throughout the year besides attending board meetings in Topeka as required, I am putting down in writing that I was able to co-host a district wide event in which we had about 300-350 people attend the debate, working together with the Blue Valley West TARS organization.

Thank you very much,

Eddie Gutierrez

Chair - Johnson County Community College, and Johnson County

Procter for the Kansas Federation of College Republicans

Dear Ms. Wells:

It is with great pleasure that I submit this letter of recommendation on behalf of the Overland Park, Kansas Blue Valley West Teen Age Republicans. In my 20 years of working with the Republican Party - as a campaign worker, Executive Director of the Truman State College Republicans, Board Member of the Kansas City Young Republicans, and most recently as Young Republicans National Committeewoman - I have never met a more impressive group of young men and women. While working with Hogan Miller, their president, and Kristina Visk, their PR chair, it quickly became apparent that the Blue Valley West TARs are absolutely exceptional.

In particular, the Blue Valley West TARs were instrumental in hosting the first debate among the 3rd congressional district primary candidates. This crucial race for the GOP has garnered nationwide media attention and was the first televised opportunity for voters to distinguish the candidates on a wide range of topics. The Blue Valley West TARs' work in planning, staffing, and executing the debate was so extraordinary that I would jump at the chance to work with them again in any capacity. What impressed me most was that their debate questions were, by far, the most insightful and challenging of the three panelist groups. I am continually amazed at their members' maturity, intelligence, and work ethic. This debate simply would not have happened if not for the Blue Valley West TARs.

I am sure you will receive recommendations from a number of worthy clubs. I would venture to say that none measure up to Blue Valley West. I recommend the Blue Valley West Teen Age Republicans for Most Outstanding TAR club without reservation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Very truly yours,

Carissa L. Freie, Esq.

Legal Counsel for the Kansas Young Republicans

Dear Teen-Age Republican Leaders:

I want to recommend the teen-age Republicans from Blue Valley West for national club of the year. It is amazing what Hogan Miller and his group of Teen-Age Republicans have been able to do in one short year. Hogan, as a sophomore, has created a group of motivated, active, and influential Republicans who are not even old enough to vote. These young leaders of our party have stepped right into the most active argument within the Republican Party without hesitation.

Most would say that it would be easy to build a grassroots republican group in the state of Kansas. Johnson County, Kansas is a group of suburban communities that make up half of the population in the Greater Kansas City area. This County is statistically one of the most conservative counties in the country, and the home to the largest concentration of middle to upper class citizens in the metropolitan area. Johnson County is also the second largest county in Kansas and contributes in large part, to the entire population of Kansas. President Bush in 2000 won Johnson County by 80%, yet we have a Democrat Congressman and a Democratic Governor. There were 20,000 people who went to the polls in 2000 and pulled the lever for Rep. Dennis Moore (D) (3rd District), and for President Bush.

So, you may ask, what is going on in Johnson County, Kansas? Ask that question to the over 50 teen-are Republicans out of Blue Valley. They understand that issues like Abortion, Education, and Guns have divided the Party within this county for their entire lives. They have seen leaders in our party tear each other apart due to litmus tests they have placed on their elected representatives. The question is not whether or not you are a Republican, it's what kind of Republican are you? Moderate or Conservative, Hogan's group of teen-age Republicans have made everyone in the party to stop and recognize that this is effecting every age group. The younger the generation is determined to take back the county party from those who want to dived the party due to their own personal agenda's.

Within ten short months, the Blue Valley West Teen-Age Republicans have become one of the most important groups. They were a major partner in the 3rd Congressional District Republican Primary Debate held at Johnson County Community College. They helped organize the event, activate the largest number of volunteers to help staff and run the debate, and they even had a panel member participate in the debate who asked intelligent questions that were relevant to the election. Besides the debate, they have a seat on the Johnson County Republican Party Executive Council, and are looking toward a major involvement in the upcoming Primary and General elections. They work well with all the political organizations in the county including the Johnson County Young Republicans. Between our two groups, we make up a volunteer base of over two hundred and fifty.

I have been so impressed with what they have been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. In addition to their organizational skills, they have been extremely diplomatic with the party division and continue to work toward eventual party unity in Johnson County.

Sincerely,

Ward W. Cook

Chair, Johnson County Young Republicans

To whom it may concern,

I would like to nominate the Blue Valley West Teen-Age Republicans for the "Most Outstanding TAR Club" award.

I was introduced to Hogan Miller, the Blue Valley West TAR president, during the club's voter registration drive. I immediately discovered that Hogan and other members held wisdom far beyond their years about the political process. Throughout my campaign, I have had the privilege of meeting numerous club members - each member has had a passion for bringing Republican leadership to Kansas and Washington.

This enthusiasm for politics has translated into a busy schedule of activities conducted by the Blue Valley West TAR club. They have conducted several voter registration drives, helped organize a candidate debate, and have attended numerous political events. Also, I have noticed that several club members are active in political campaigns.

The Blue Valley West TAR club's dedication, motivation, and knowledge exemplify the characteristics of a first-class organization. I strongly endorse them for the "Most Outstanding TAR club" award.

Very respectfully,

Adam Taff

Candidate for Congress

3rd District of Kansas

Dear Ms. Wells:

I write this letter to offer my full support and recommendation for the Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans for the Most Outstanding Teenage Republican Club Award.

In my capacity as the Third District Representative for the Kansas Young Republicans I have worked with the Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans and their Chair, Hogan Miller, on numerous committees within the Johnson County Republican Party. However, one committee in particular stands out in my mind, in which I served as the Chair of the Third District Congressional Debate Committee and Mr. Miller served as the Blue Valley West Teenage Republican Representative and Volunteer Coordinator for the event.

The Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans selected a member of their club to serve as a debate panelist and provided the Committee with questions for the debate. Their questions not only demonstrated their knowledge of issues affecting teenagers and young Republicans, but their maturity and awareness of the difficult issues facing our nation's leaders today.

The Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans showed their ability to organize and mobilize youth by providing all the volunteers for the debate. All the volunteers demonstrated utmost professionalism and neutrality during the event.

In all situations, the Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans have shown outstanding service to the Johnson County Republican Party. Due to their dedication, I believe they should receive the Most Outstanding Teenage Republican Club Award.

Very truly yours,

Kori Crouse

Third District Representative

Kansas Young Republicans

Ms. Wells and Selection Committee,

It is a great pleasure of mine to recommend to you the Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans. As the two-term State Chairman of the Kansas Federation of College Republicans, I have helped to start and have worked with several College Republican and Teenage Republican groups. It was a surprise to me when I learned of the Blue Valley West TARs. Contacting their leadership, I was pleased to find that they were well advanced in the running of their group and in fact, I found it was better run than several of my own established College Republican and TAR chapters. Since their conception, they have continuously surpassed my expectations by their presence at Kansas Day's, their numerous gatherings, and by taking a large leadership role in the 3rd District Republican debates.

This year we face a hard election for Congress in Kansas, as well as a difficult support role for President Bush just a few miles away in Missouri. It is fortunate that we have the Blue Valley West TARs right in the midst of us to help lead our grassroots organization. It is my hope that statewide Teenage Republicans in Kansas and Missouri will become a reality. With the leadership and skill that the Blue Valley West TARs have put forth, I have no doubt that this will occur. It is for these reasons that I give my highest recommendations to the Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans and urge you to select them as the group of the year.

With Regards,

Jordan A. D'Angelo

Chairman - Kansas Federation of College Republicans

Chairman - Kansas Student for Bush

Dear Ms. Wells,

I write in support of the Blue Valley West (Kansas) High School's nomination for the "Most Outstanding TAR Club" award to be given at the National TAR Leadership Conference.

The Blue Valley West TARs were instrumental in helping to sponsor the first public debate between the Republican candidates for the Kansas Third Congressional District. Group members coordinated volunteers to help check in guests for the debate, assisted with publicity, provided panelists, and were involved in the detailed planning stages from teh beginning for the debate.

The debate went off withour an error and a lot of praise on May 28, owing much to the Blue Valley West TARs' and those of their president, Hogan Miller. They have proven themselves to be some of the most active Young Republicans in this district.

I hope you will give the Blue Valley West TARs your strongest consideration for most outstanding club. They richly deserve this honor.

Sincerely,

Dan Lara

Former Press Secretary

Education and the Workforce Committee,

U.S. House

U.S. Rep. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.)

Wow what a year it has been for the Teenage Republicans of Blue
Valley West High School in the great state of  Kansas. The amount of
time and hard work that the Teenage Republicans spent into this past
election showed! While at the Teenage Republicans Leadership
Conference in Washington DC the BVW High School won the best TARS club
in the nation, but their work for the Republican Party did not stop
there. Even though Kansas continued being a certain "red state" this
past election, the TARS of Blue Valley West worked hard for President
Bush and other legislators throughout that great state as though they
were always losing.  Membership of the TARS increased two fold, and
they were featured for their leadership throughout the state in print,
radio and television outlets.

When I attended the Teenage Republicans Leadership Conference
in Washington, DC this year as a representation of the Teenage
Republicans of South Carolina, I made many friends. However, none were
as special as those relationships made with the leadership of the Blue
Valley West Tars. First of all they have one of the greatest Teenage
Republicans in the nation, Hogan  Miller, as their President. Hogan
showed his leadership abilities by leading the BVW TARS to National
Republican Recognition when they received the Best Tars Club in the
Nation award this past summer. His leadership could not be more
steadfast and strong.

Secondly, they have some of the best leaders in the nation
assisting President Hogan Miller.  Adam Tank, who has held many
offices in his tenure as a TAR, including being nominated and
unopposed as Vice President, is truly one of the nicest guys in the
state of Kansas.  He has managed Kansas Days, and has been a
trustworthy custodian of the vast amounts of funds that the BVWTARS
receive.

Last but certainly not least are clearly the prettiest
officers in the club; Ashlyn Cheray and Kristina Visk. As former Vice
President, former Chair of Public Relations and former Chair of
Education, Ashlyn has taken over many of the hardest responsibilities
of the club. She has received  the Blue Valley Foundation Sunflower
Award, Optimist Youth Leader Award, and was named "Intriguing Person"
by the school magazine. Kristina Visk's work for the Republican Party
is also worth mentioning. While I knew at TLC as the webmaster of the
site, that is not all she did for the BVWTARS. She is always working
on some way to make sure that the BVW TARS are in all available media
outlets.  They all work hard for Blue Valley, the great state of
Kansas, and the United States, and for that we are truly thankful.

As spokesman for the South Carolina Federation of Teenage
Republicans, I know I express the views of all members in saying we
are proud to call the Teenage Republicans of Blue Valley West friend,
and having nothing but the utmost respect for and continuing
friendship with the entire Blue Valley West Teenage Republicans, we
endorse their actions in securing the future for all Americans!

Most respectfully,

Alex Stroman
